========================

Sean Puffy Combs sat down with my boy Sway of MTV the other day and gave a run down of all the recent trials and tribulations he had been experiencing over the past few months. One of the most dramatic things that came out is the fact that Puff will no longer go by the name Puff Daddy. He will be taking time off over the next couple of months. It'll be a 'leave of abscence' as he described it. He wants to take soime time off to regroup, reflect and ultimately resurrect himself. When he returns to the scene sometime in June he will have a name changing ceremony and will officially adopt the name P Diddy. Puff explained that he wants to have a fresh new start and leave all the drama and mayhem from these past couple of years behind him.. He noted that he wants to get Bill Clinton to be a part of the name change ceremony because Bill has been a survivor..Folks I'm telling you.. Its just a matter of time before the former President shows up someone's album-Mark my words..So folks grab all your Puff Daddy memorabilia because in a couple of months, Puff will be no more. We are entering the age of P Diddy..

During the interview Puff addressed the issue of Shyne. As you may know shortly after he being convicted Shyne spoke out ands accused Puff of abandoning him and even lying on the stand with regards to the pairs relationship. Shyne noted that Puff said the two weren't close when in fact they were. He also noted that Puff wasn't helping him with all the legal bills. Puff during the interview said that he wasn't abandoning anyone especially Shyne. He also stated that he would be visiting him next week and would do whatever he could to support him in his efforts to get his verdict overturned. Puff also explained that he was unaware of Shyne having a gun and in fact he wasn't aware whether or not Shyne had a gun during the altercation..He thinks Shyne is young and talented and certainly doesn't want him to see him jail wasting away..

Puff also addressed the issue of folks testifying against him. He reiterated what came out in the trial which was there are many people who are trying to profit off of Puff by suing him. Many of the suits are unfounded and opportunistic.. So folks look out cause its a new day coming.. Puff Daddy has left the building.. P Diddy is on his way.

Nasty Rumors About Lil Bow Wow!

I wanna clear up a disturbing rumor that has been floating around the country as of late. It involves double platinum selling artist Lil Bow Wow. A couple of weeks ago I was in Cleveland and heard some irresponsible deejay get on the air and try to incite her audience. She announced that she heard that Lil Bow Wow was raped by his limo driver. The DJ was trying to be coy and act like she was in the dark and hence was soliciting calls from her listeners.. Working at a radio station its pretty easy to find out the reall 4-1-1.. so why homegirl didn't do that day was confusing.. Everybody likes a good story.. but when it comes to rape, that's serious business and when we talk about sexual abuse on a child-[Lil Bow Wow is 13 years old] thats even more serious.

According to Lil Bow Wow's record label [Columbia/ SoSo Def] and folks from his camp, this alleged rape did not happen. It's a nasty vicious rumor that is on par with other rumors and urban legends concerning rap artists.. About 7 years ago, Hip Hop circles were bombarded with rumors about Big Daddy Kane going on Oprah Winfrey's TV show and confessing that he had AIDs.. He was never on Oprah and he certainly didn't have AIDs. Soon afterwards Oprah was attached to another rumor that circulated within Hip Hop circles. This one involved clothing designer Tommy Hilfiger who I'm no fan of.. However, as much as some people would like to believe he never came on Oprah's show and said anything disparaging about Black folks wearing his clothes. He was never kicked off the Oprah show.. Hilfiger was the victim of what 's called business terrorism.

Ten years before the Hilfiger rumors there was a clothing outfit called Troop. Everyone from LL Cool J to MC Hammer wore them. After it started to blow up and become popular, nasty rumors about Troop being owned by the Ku Klux Klan began to circulate. I even witnessed preachers at well respected churches echoing the rumor and encouraging parents to make sure their kids were no longer wearing Troop. The company folded over night, but not before they attempted to try and get high profile 'conscious' artists like Chuck D to act as spokespeople. Unfortunately it was too little too late. Many pointed to rival clothing companies as the cause of the rumors.

Here in the Bay Area Too Short was often the target of rumors. The most popular one was him being shot and killed. Damn near every week we would get word from frantic friends, distant cousins and street cats stating that Short had been shot and killed in the mean streets of Oakland.. 11 albums later Short is still with us.. Thank God.. Other rumors that frequently circulated here out west involved Suge Knight and 2Pac when they were incarcerated. Suge has been said to have been stabbed and killed on numerous occasions. That of course has not happened. 2Pac suffered from rape rumors. That too did not happen. Hip Hop like other sectors of society are prone to urban legends.. We're just glad to be able to clear the air about this latest one involving Lil Bow Wow.

Juvenile Latest Rapper Arrested

It looks like another rap superstar is making a trip to the big house. This time its Juvenile. Apparently he got into a fight while outside a the Improv Comedy Club outside a Miami Mall which involved up to 20 people. Its unclear what the altercation was about, but according to Miami police a series of fights broke out and Juvenile hit a guy named Jackson Saint Ange upside the head with a champaign bottle. This resulted in the victim being left unconscious and having to go to the hospital. The incident occurred one day after his 26th birthday. The police are also saying during the fights Juvenile ran up to one of the police sergeants and grabbed him. He cursed the officer and demanded to be taken to jail. Juvenile was charged with aggravated battery with a bottle and battery on a police officer.. He returns back to Miami for arraignment on April 18th.. This is all bad.. Over the past few weeks we have had 6 incidents involving high profile artists..From Lil Kim to Lil Cease to Fredro Starr and now Juvenile..Spokesperson for Cash Money said Juvenile was in town promoting his new record label. Somebody please tell me whats going on..

Rapper/Actor Ice-T will join Hip Hop Ambassadors, Special K and Teddy Tedd, in kicking off their new show, 'The Ghetto,' on BringTheNoise.com on Friday, April 6, 2001.

Ice-T, one of the leading figures in hip-hop, released his first album, Rhyme Pays, in 1987 after landing a major label record deal with Sire Records. The record reached gold status. That same year, he recorded the theme song for Dennis Hopper's Colors, a film about inner-city life in Los Angeles.

Since that time Ice-T has has forged ahead establishing himself as a respected actor, landing roles in major feature films, in addition to forming his own record label, Rhyme Syndicate, and continuing to release albums and tour the world with his metal band, Body Count.

Have questions or comments for Ice-T, Teddy Tedd and Special K? Post them on the Noise Board between now and April 6th. Then be sure to tune in to "The Ghetto' on http://www.BringTheNoise.com Friday, April 6th at 9:00pm EST.

Napster In More Trouble

It looks like Napster is under fire again. This time the recording industry has issued a compliance report stating that Napster is using antiquated filtering methods which have done very little to block the use of copywritten material. To be more specific the record labels want Napster to block all songs and then create a filter that allows them to grant access to songs in which they have permission. It's called a 'Filter In' process. As far as the labels are concerned Napster's current filtering methods are easy to get around and thousands of fans are still downloading songs with relative ease..It'll be interesting to see how San Francisco judge Marilyn Patel responds to this latest progress report.

Napster on the other hand, is stating that they have thus far blocked 57% of the copyrighted material on their site. They are also working hard to prevent the industry from trying to outright ban file sharing. They have sent out a press release encouraging their legion of users to converge on Washington DC next week April 3rd to support the struggling company when they appear before Congress. There will be yet another hearing on the merits of digital downloading and music file sharing. Among those scheduled to show up is Chuck D of Public Enemy. Napster is offering free t-shirts and concert tickets to the first one thousand fans who agree to show up..They are also encouraging users to call Congress at 1-877-SHARING

Fredro Starr Arrested

Just when you think we've gotten enough of our fill of Hip Hop artists running into trouble we are hit with two more disturbing incidents. The latest mishap involves Mr Fredro Starr. Folks may know him for his stint in the group Onyx and more recently for his acting prowess in movies like 'Sunset Park' and more recently 'Save The Last Dance'. According to reports Fredro was on a plane that was enroute to Los Angeles. After it landed Fredro decided to stand up and remain standing even after flight attendants requested he sit down. Fredro decided to follow his own rules which resulted in the police waiting for his for him as the plane taxied in. There was some sort struggle in which a cop got hurt and Fredro arrested. He was charged with resisting arrest among other things.. Maybe there's something in the water as far too many artists seem to be running into trouble..

Not to be outdone by mishaps- Sean Puffy Combs has some more craziness added to his plate. A Detroit video show host named Roger Mills has filed a lawsuit against Puffy claiming that he was assaulted and held against his will by members of Puff's entourage in an incident that took place in March of 1999...According to the story, Mills got Puff hot under the collar while doing an interview for his cable TV show. He asked Puff if he had anything to do with the shooting death of Notorious BIG. Needless to say Puff cut the interview short while a member of his crew demanded the tape. When the tape wasn't turned over Mills supposedly got roughed up leaving his shoulder and neck injured..

Puff's camp is denying the allegations although Detroit police reports do show that they did investigate an incident on the date in question. No arrests we re made. The prevailing sense is that this latest lawsuit may be an attempt to capitalize off of Puff's recent trouble. One of the glaring factors is that the incident took place almost two year s ago and we are now just hearing about it. Mills' camp is claiming that it took so long to file suit because they were seeking an apology from Puff with no avail and then his recent trial delayed their filing..

Lastly we have Mr Russell Jones who is better known to us as Ol' Dirty Bastard of the Wu-Tang Clan. He was recently offered a plea bargain for drug related charges from the Queens district attorney in New York which would result in him getting 2-4 years jail time..The charges ODB is fighting were based upon a traffic stop in July of '99 where police discovered 20 bags of crack and weed. The DA feels like they are being generous with their offer as they are attempting to match the charges ODB still faces in Cali which would amount to 4 years.. However, his lawyers are fighting and trying to get his sentenced reduced.. They feel that ODB's major crime is that he has a substance abuse problem and that jail would do him little good.. After all, drugs are a health problem..For ODB, time is running out.. and should he not accept the offer he will start trial in May and will be looking at a long prison sentenced if convicted..

Last Show For Company Flow

In other Hip Hop news.. folks are gearing up for the final show of one of Hip Hop's favorite underground acts- Company Flow. Legions of fans were disheartened to learn late last year that the collective of El-P, Mr. Len and Bigg Juss were calling it a day and going their separate ways. El-P has just created a new label called Def Jux and has already amassed a healthy stable of artists including Mr Lif, Aesop Rock and Cannibal OX..Other members are getting ready to embark upon their own solo projects.. In the meantime fans will have one last opportunity to see the group perform this Wednesday March 28 at New York's famed Bowery Ballroom which is located on 6 Delancy Street...The show kicks off at 9pm and its for the 16 and over.. Featured guests will include Murs and Asop of the Living Legends Crew.. Also it should be noted that Murs is also doing an album with El-P which will drop sometime next year..

The Bomb Returns

Folks are also buzzing about the return of The Bomb. After a one year hiatus, San Francisco's Dave Paul brings back the mafgzine turned record label which played a key role in highlighting Hip Hop DJs. They will be dropping 5 full length albums which for many turntable enthusiasts is 'Da Bomb!'... For those who aren't familiar, Here's brief run down of the lable's history..

Before unveiling its record label in 1994, The Bomb Hip-Hop Magazine issued two flexidiscs by a then unknown Automator (of Dr. Octagon fame), Charizma & Peanut Butter Wolf and other artists. The first release on the label was a rap album titled "Bomb Hip-Hop Compilation" featuring Madchild (with DJ Q-Bert), Blackalicious and Mystik Journeymen among others. This was followed in 1995 by the pioneering all dj / all scratching (before it was called turntablism) album "Return of the DJ", introducing the world to the turntable wizardry of Invisbl Skratch Piklz, Beat Junkies, Cut Chemist and Rob Swift (X-Men). The critically acclaimed "Return of the DJ - Volume II" followed in 1997. Bomb continued it's success with the international rap compilation "Bomb Worldwide".. In 1999 Bomb's RETURN OF THE DJ series was ranked by Spin Magazine as #25 in their "The 90 Greatest Albums of the 90's" (Spin-Sept. 1999), receiving a higher rating than Gold & Platinum albums by Lauryn Hill, Pearl Jam, Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, Metallica, Green Day, Cypress Hill, Fatboy Slim, De La Soul and others.

1998 & 1999 saw Bomb unlease a staggering list of 14 full albums within a two years span including the following artists; Cipher, Baby J, DJ Faust, DJ Disk, Jeep Beat Collective, Krispy, Kreators, world dj champion DJ Craze, DJ Faust's second album "Inward Journeys", Shortee, T-Rock, "Revenge of the B-Boy", "Contents Under Pressure" and "Return of the DJ - Volume 3" .

Ja Rule to Hit Silver Screen

Ja Rule is getting ready to follow in the footsteps of a guy who he often compared to-DMX. The deep voiced emcee who is blowing up the spot with his hit song 'Put It On Me' is about to hit the silver screen and try and make waves as actor.. His first of two films is 'The Fast and the Furious' in which Ja Rule will play a member of secret society of street car racers who is under investigation by the police. Look for this flick to drop in late June.

Later on this year, Ja Rule will make noise in the movie 'Paid In Full' which will feature fellow rapper Cam'ron. Its being produced by Roc-A-Fella Records CEO Damon Dash. If that's not enough Ja Rule is also slated to hook up with Snoop Dog and Ice T in a movie adaptation of Donald 'Iceberg Slim' Goines' novel 'Crime Partners'.
