MUSIC NOTES: Lots of new releases for the month of January but very few seriously stands out... Leading the pack is are two Bay Area releases..The first being Spice 1's 'I'm High'.. This mesmerizing song contains a nice hook and a driving bassline that'll keep you humming the song long after it's over.. Paris who is best known for his militant poltical stances produced this track... Lots of folks have been sleeping on this one..The Luniz with the help of Redman drop a bomb ass cut called 'Hypnotize'.. It has more of an East Coast feel as opposed a trademarked West Coast sound.. A nice cut worth checking out..

The Wu-Tang's Cappadonna drops a new one that'll leave your head nodding...But also wondering why he fell short of his full potential... Actually I shouldn't say that.. Slang Editorial and Pillage are good songs... But there's nothing ground breaking and lets face it.. We all expect Wu-Tang to break new ground with every new release.. These are strong songs for Cappadonna but they won't seperate him from the rest of the rap pack...

A suprise cut is from a group called Serious.. I'm not sure where they're from.. But they have a Wu like sound... Their new joint 'Eyes On The Prize' is nice.. Don't overlook this jam...Another suprise track is from Lutricia McNeal... The remix of her joint 'Ain't That Just The Way' is a solid R&B cut with lots of hip hop flava.. Many of the hip hop djs hear in the Bay Area couldn't get away from the song's dope beat.. Hence you'll hear it being played at a lot of jams...

The really hot joint is Gang Starr's Royalty which was done with K-Ci and JoJo of the group Jodeci.... Yes, make no mistake they were trying to go for the commercial market by using the famed singers.. However, this cut is hot.. Gang Starr does not lose their street credability..

Das EFX's Rap Scholar has been getting mixed reviews.. I like the hard driving bassline and the slowed down sample of Brick's classic jam Dazz... However, while a lot of folks seem to be checking for this joint.. A lot of other folks hate it and they've come to the conclusion that Das EFX is through.. I say give the record a chance.. I love it.. Finally don't sleep on Bulworth's 'They Talk About It When We Live It'... This track is lifted from the sound track Bulworth which features actress Halle Berry who goes around rapping and Warren Beatty.. The sound track is supposed to be off the hook.. This particular jam features.. Method Man, KRS-One, Prodigy and Kam... Listen to KRS-One's verse as he breaks off a new one for hip hop publications..

Until next week
Peace out
