========================
What was predicted the moment we first heard a couple of months ago came to pass yesterday. The highly touted MTV Jingle Ballers Jam that featured Nelly, The Cash Money Millionaires and Lil Kim who claims she was erroneously added, had the West Coast leg of its tour cancelled yesterday. Sources were pointing to poor ticket sales. At 45 bucks a pop and just days before Christmas, many opted to either take a wait and see attitude or forego the event all together. Here in the Bay Area, many potential concert goers were expressing concern about their safety. For those who don't know, earlier this year, a concert in Oakland featuring Cash Money was marred by large groups of marauding thugs who went through the audience indiscriminately attacking people. Hence many thought better about going this time around even though it was being held in San Jose, a city known for holding it down and not taking any nonsense. Oh well maybe next year…

Last week we told you about former NWA manager Jerry Heller returning to the music scene. He’s hooked up veteran DJ Tony G and Hit A Lick records to help launch a label that specializes in Latino Hip-Hop. Well Heller has added to his news blitz. This time he is making noise because he just won an appeal at the Second District Court of Appeals in LA. Apparently Heller was seeking libel action against author and former Source writer Ronin Ro and Doubleday Publishing. Heller maintained that Ro in his book ‘Have Gun Will Travel: The Spectacular Rise and Violent Fall of Death Row Records contained false statements that were ‘libelous per se’. He maintained that the ‘untrue’ statements exposed Heller to all sorts of drama that prevented him from being able to function properly within the music biz. So now it looks like Ro has some problems on his hands. We’ll see what happens in the final outcome.

In other news Mos Def is looking to stay busy in 2001. He’s working on two albums and two film projects. If that’s not enough he and his partner in rhyme Talib have a bookstore in Brooklyn to run. Mos’ next album is called ‘Hated By Them, Loved By Those, Respected By All’ Its due out in Spring. He also has an album from a rock-n-roll band called Jack Johnson which will be called ‘Black Bastard’. As for his film projects, Mos willshooting a flick with Da Brat and singer Monica called Civil Brand. He also is working on an MTV project called Carmen Jones.

Props go out to Richie Rich, B-Legit, JT Tha Bigga Figga and a slew of other Bay Area rappers. They along with Franzen who does our evening shift and the World faith Christian Ministries will be out in force this Saturday collecting toys for those in need. The event is scheduled to take place at 9925 International Blvd from 12-3pm.. For more info hit them up at 510-633-5700.
