Lil Kim

'The Notorious Kim' [Atlantic]

7.0

A lot of snap and crackle and not enough pop

A lot of hype surrounds this album.. It's cool, but I'm not overly impressed. There are a few good tracks-most notably the Pat Benatar inspired 'Don't Mess With Me', the Evelyn Champaign King inspired 'She Don't Love You', the Susan Vega inspired 'Right Now' featuring R&B singer Carl Thomas and the current single 'No Matter What They Say'. However, the album doesn't reach Kim's full potential. She is one of Hip Hop's most gifted emcees but her antics and sexual persona take away from that. In addition Kim should've come with some better beats... Good eye candy..not neccessarily good ear candy..
