The Pretense of Hip-Hop Black Leadership
Supporting the mindless hip-hop style irreverence toward African-American civil rights leadership, Prof. Dyson considers it some kind of new freedom for Black actors and entertainers to verbally dishonor Dr. King, Rosa Parks, and others. Dyson approaches the analytically bizarre in his article when he claims “that the barbershop…may be one of the last bastions of unregulated speech in black America.” He also claims that, “at the worst [civil rights organizations] are antidemocratic institutions headed by gifted but authoritarian leaders.” ....

A Response to Dr Kilson's Hip Hop Leadership Article
After reading Dr. Martin Kilson’s article on the quality of the current crop of black hip hop leadership, I’ve revisited these memories. For me, they all go hand in hand. It seemed that somehow the impulse that led our elders to instill in us reverence for the those who had gone before was the same impulse that led them to discipline us as they had been disciplined and to place upon us the same constraints on behavior in mixed race situations. Both were powerful links to the past. This was in the late 70’s and 80’s. ....

Xtra Large Bullshit-Article on Hip Hop
At first I noticed a familiar face when I look at the cover, once again its 50 Cent with his 4th XXL cover this year (Wow he must be really sumthin, I mean it’s not like he might be the only reason XXL have made some noticeable sales this year, right?). I can’t recall the last time an artist got 4 covers from the same magazine in 1 year and even co-edited one of the issues. ....

Keith Murray Speaks on The Prison System In America
A person gets locked up, he has to pay money to his lawyers, while the lawyers break bread, so to speak, with the system. Jails have contracts with food companies, making those companies serious money. Prisoners work while incarcerated for below minimum wageĐas low as seven cents per hour and their productivity helps run the jail. The little money they do receive goes back into the system because they spend their meager earnings on the products that the jails are selling.....
