Hip Hop-America Gets What It Deserves
Now the left, and democrats in particular, will have to take a long, hard look at themselves. What went wrong? This was not a stolen election. It was not a hijacking, mugging or a mistake. The left dropped the ball, not so much for lack of trying (especially with the youth vote), but for backing John Kerry--a weaker version of Bush--in the first place.....

Hip Hop Collides w/ Corporate America
When Indiana Pacers bad boy Ron Artest vaulted himself into the stands at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Mich., on Nov. 19, you could practically feel Corporate America bristle: "We pay for the best seats in the house, and now we might get those seats thrown at us." ....

Why Blacks Never Really Came Down On Eminem
Eminem's actions were louder than his words. He said he wasn't a racist anymore, and proved it by the many Black artists that he has helped. Eminem is responsible for the successful career of the rap group G-Unit, who have sold millions of records worldwide... All in all, he helped seven African-American rappers sell over 15 million records world-wide,.....

Chuck D: Too Much Time, Dollars, No Damn Sense....
DRE who i've known for years is a nice guy who has co signed so much niggitive on the black race, how can he not expect that karma to somehow circle around? There's never peace if you never loved it from jump. And we can't blame SUGE for everything can we? What was going around in YOUNG BUCKs mind stabbing a cat in front of national cameras? ......

Welcome to Politics Hip Hop: U Got Knocked The F!@# Out
Maybe now people will understand that Hip Hop alone- will NOT save America. It won't save the world. But it can be an effective organizing tool for those with a STRATEGY.....Oh no!!! Not the S word!!! Yes y'all, say it with me- STRATEGY. It's defined as "The science and art of using all of the forces of a nation to execute approved plans as effectively as possible during times of peace or war."But see, our so-called "Hip Hop nation" had no strategy!!!! ....

A Satirical Lyrical Exercise (Asians In Hip Hop)
I mean, every time you see some Asian guy on MTV, VH-1, BET or in the magazines. he’s grabbing his crotch and bragging about how he was some big-time drug dealer before his music hustle jumped off. Turn on the radio or buy a CD and every song you hear is some Asian artist bragging about being a pimp or a hustler. Or they’re extolling the virtues of prison life or committing violent acts like it’s a badge of honor or a write of passage within the Asian community....

An Open Letter to Radio One's Founder Cathy Hughes
However we can't in good conscience support her radio operations as currently configured. It is my personal belief that her current programming policies have actually set the freedom movement of Black Americans back by about 40 years. ......

The Quest for Realness in Religion, Hip Hop and Politics
All of the mainstream American folks know more negative frames of reference for this sub-culture than positive. They know somebody got stabbed at the Vibe Awards, but they never knew about the B-Boy Summit. They did not make it to the last b-boy jam at the Riekes Center for Human Enhancement. So they missed it when the electricity went out and a live band played jazz breaks while American b-boys and b-girls of all races threw down with their bretheren from Korea, Japan and other countries. ......

The Hip Hop Hatin' that Hate Produced
Battlin’ is nothing new in the Rap world as it was a sure fire way to prove your superiority on the mic. Many of us old school brotha’s can remember battles between the Cold Crush Brothers and the Fantastic 5. Or, those impromptu MC battles that were waged in high school halls between classes ......

The Election Aftermath: Hip Hop Where Do We Go From Here?
Whether it was mainstream icons like P-Diddy and his Citizen For Change or Russell Simmons and his Hip Hop Summit Action Network or grassroots organizations like the Hip Hop Political Convention, the Hip Hop Assembly or Hip Hop Congress, lots of people stepped it up and got involved. For most it was their first time....

And The Hip Hop Band Played On by Min Paul Scott
I turned on the radio expecting to hear the news 'sista' talking about how people were wildin’ out in the streets or a militant radio DJ announce that he was jackin’ the air waves and holdin’ a radio political teach- in for the next 24 hours. No music. No corny jokes, just information. But instead of a radio rebellion, DJ’s were still crackin’ jokes and Nelly was still telling Sista’s to ‘ drop down and get your eagle on, girl... ....

They Chose, We Lost-Did The Hip Hop Vote Go For Bush?
Did it ever cross anyone’s mind that young people, specifically young whites are a lot more conservative than they pretend to be? Did it ever cross the HSAN or Citizen Change’s minds that they were registering almost as many Republicans as Democrats? Has it ever crossed anyone’s mind that Hollywood (or would they not) is only liberal in public when they have something to sell or when it’s safe to be so and quite the opposite behind closed-doors? Did it ever cross anyone’s mind that almost half the kids who claim to be down for hip-hop, down for inner city youth, down for Blacks and Latinos, etc. would actually go into the booth on Nov. 2nd and pull the switch for the GOP ....

KRS Responds to the NY Daily News
Like everyone I was shocked to read that I and other African-Americans actually “cheered when 911 happened” and that I have “declared my solidarity with Al Qaeda”. When I read my words taken out of context I was shocked and disappointed that the Daily News would go this far to assassinate my character and distort my views ....

The Hip Hop Community Can't Have it Both Ways
In the the category of "you've got to be kidding — right?," some in the hip-hop community are condemning rapper Eminem's new video depicting singer Michael Jackson as a child molester as racially insensitive. This strikes me, an admitted old school brother, as oddly duplicitous, not to mention fodder for a Chris Rock joke....

Why We Don't Vote by KRS-One
Remembering that these writings are limited to Hiphoppas in America it is often asked, why we Hiphoppas don’t vote? The answers are so obvious that it makes the question seem arrogant; even disrespectful. Could it be that we simply feel distant from the whole political process? Could it be that our issues are never dealt with? Could it be that whether there is a republican or a democrat in office the hardships of our lives never seem to change? ....

KRS-One: I Am An American Philospoher
The most recent jab in the critical arena has been the New York Daily News. The Rush and Malloy gossip column ran a segment that accused KRS of forming solidarity with Al Qaeda, because of statements he made at a recent New Yorker Festival panel discussion. KRS-ONE says, “Let me be clear and we can refer to the audiotape. At NO POINT during the panel discussion did I EVER declare solidarity with Al Qaeda and for the Daily News to print that is not only irresponsible…it’s dangerous!”....

Will the real Documentarians Please Stand Up?
I spent the last week or so watching “And You Don’t Stop,” VH-1’s recent weeklong documentary on the history of hip-hop. And I could’ve gotten so mad over AYDS’s numerous oversights and inaccuracies. I could’ve gotten mad at Bill Adler, former Def Jam exec, anointing himself Hiphop’s official historian/archivist throughout AYDS. I could’ve gotten over his claim that until the late 1980s New York was the only city producing hiphop when just about every black community in just about every major city has local legends and verified histories chronicling their roots in hip-hop dating back to at least the late 1970s, if not earlier.... ....
