Big shout out to my man QD3. Many of you may know him as a seasoned Hip Hop producer. Others know him as the son of the legendary Quincy Jones. As of late he's been establishing himself as a filmmaker. I had the priveledge of hooking up with him a few months back when he was shooting a documentary for 2Pac. He wanted to give people another perspective as to who Pac was and hence he wound up revisting many of Pac's early Hip Hop associates as well as his old stomping grounds here in the Bay Area. That documentary is now done. QD3 dropped me a line to tell us about the upcoming release of Thug Angel. Here's what he said:
"I did a lot of tracks with 2Pac when he was still with us like "To
Live & Die in LA” "Letter To the President" & "Lost Souls". My sister
Kidada was also engaged to Pac at the time of his passing. My family was
real close to Pac and got to know him very well and we got to see the
complete Pac, not just the Deathrow persona he took on for only 9 months
before his untimely death.
Anyway, we started filming Pac very early on in an effort to do an
autobiography on him while still alive. To make along story short we
just finished the Film about his life, we have over 70 minutes of never
before seen footage of Pac during all different times of his life like,
Marin City footage when he is only 17 and still very humble and polite
to Pac wilin’ at the gun range in Compton showing of his gun collection
and doing an interview at the same time.
This film is the second best thing to meeting Pac as it was produced by
close friends of Pac such as myself QD3, Tracy Robinson and Leila
Steinberg who Pac lived with for 4 years who also managed him. The film
features Shock G, Mutulu Shakur, Snoop, Mopreme, Edi of the Outlawz,
Mike Dyson, Quincy Jones, Rashida Jones, Davey D, Treach, Suge, and many
more. We went easy on the cliché's that have been covered to death in
the media and chose to dig deeper into who Tupac was as a human being
from an inside perspective. I believe a lot of people will have another
perception of Pac after seeing this film.
The music was done by myself, Johnny J, & Femi Ojetunde whom all worked
with Pac when he was still with us. The film is due in April
2002. The DVD contains over 70 minutes of never before seen Pac footage
that is not to be missed. Very personal footage including studio
sessions as well as frestyles and plenty of interviews. Even footage of
Biggie and Tupac before the fued".
