It's been mad hectic over the last few days... First we have a number of responses regarding Kurupt signing back with Suge Knight's Tha Row Records. Many are saying that Suge stepped to Kurupt and offered him a lot of money. From what I was told Kurupt's money situation hasn't been all that great as of late. I was also told that Suge would have to pay a lot of loot to get Kurupt out of his contract with Antra. Apparently he seems prepared to do that. We will have to see what goes down. Last week Antra Records where Kurupt is signed to issued statement that read as follows;
Despite the current rumors circulating of ANTRA artist Kurupt signing to Death Row or Doggystyle Records, Kurupt is still and will remain a signed ANTRA artist. We at ANTRA are always looking for better ways to broaden and diversify the marketing, management and promotion of Kurupt as an artist and are always open to any opportunities to do so. Kurupt's partners Daz, Bad Azz, Snoop and the rest of the DPG Crew are steamed up. They felt like Kurupt burned them and left them in the lurch when he bounced to New York to join Suge on Hot 97. his crew was definitely caught off guard. No one could believe it was going down. The day before the big Hot 97 interview here's what they posted on their website...
i just got off the phone with Bigg A, Daz's manager and member of the DPG family. Here is what is going on. After yesterdays very controversial day it seems things have turned for the worse, even tho we still are remaining optimistic. After we called Death Row's bluff and won, meaning we showed to the rest of the world kurupt was proven to not be signed to Tha Row, it seems Suge Knight took things into his own hand. Needless to say once they discovered Kurupt had signed on his own, worry and concern turned to disappointment and anger. Bad Azz dropped an audio statement on the DPG website noting that he was saddened and did not understand how Kurupt could make such a move. He acknowledged that this is a business where the game can quickly change, but for Kurupt to go back to Tha Row after all the ups and downs everyone went through to get off, was the equivalent to selling your soul. Bad Azz also stated that he thought Kurupt was a smarter person and that there were lots of options for him to pursue if he really needed the money. He concluded by saying that he thinks Kurupt is still going to wind up broke while on Tha Row. Other DPG members weren't so diplomatic. They saw Kurupt's departure as the ultimate betrayal referring to him as Taliban and Benadict Arnold. Daz likened Kurupt's sudden departure to getting a divorce and noted that if he signed with Suge he is no longer affiliated and down with DPG. They also noted that no one from that camp will work with him. On the flipside DPG members up to now have stated they will be taking a wait and see attitude with regards to publicly dissing him. For the most part they intend not to give him any shine or direct any attention towards him. Hopefully a war of words doesn't heat up on records or the streets. In the meantime, the DPG Crew intend to continue working on their respective projects. Daz is working on a new album called 'This Is The Life I Lead'. He also has the 'Makaveli and Dillinger' in the works. Has two cuts 'Wake Up My people' and 'First To Bomb' up on their site for folks to peep. Check it out here. Lastly Daz has a movie he's working on called 'Independent Game' and a DPG magazine that they are developing. |
