Brooklyn rapper, Mr. D. Original has got serious beef with DMX and Ruff Ryders producer, Swizz Beatz. D. Original is claiming that DMX and Swizz Beats stole his song, "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" a solemn Hiphop version of the Bill Withers classic hit, "Ain't No Sunshine". D. Original is preparing to file a lawsuit claiming that the Ruff Ryders duo maliciously stole his concepts and that the song was copy written beforehand in 2000. The rapper claims that he handed Swizz Beats a 10-song demo CD entitled, "8 Million Stories" two years ago featuring the song. He says, "My mother died in the hospital due to hospital negligence and everyone including the FDA was involved at the time. When my mom passed away, I wrote "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" as a memorial to her. The song was real deep with a universal appeal, and I knew that it was destined to be a hit record. Millions of people can relate to a family member dying in the hospital. D. Original claims that six months after he gave the demo to Swizz Beatz, DMX released the single and video "Ain't No Sunshine" from the 2001 "Exit Wounds" movie soundtrack. Not a stranger to controversy, Mr. D. Original released a maxi-single in 1998 entitled, "3 Joints" on his independent label, $Money Entertainment$. Many retailers refused to stock it in their stores due to the marijuana leaf artwork on the CD's cover. That certainly did not hinder D. Original. The rapper sold copies of his CD on August 7, 1998 in front of Brooklyn's Beat Street Records along with a complimentary 3-dollar bag of weed. That "original" street team move landed him several nights in jail. After he was released on bond, D. Original appeared on BET Rap City, MTV News, and Howard Stern's syndicated radio show and "3 Joints" went on to sell well over 65,000 copies. D. Original states, "When Swizz Beatz stole my song and released it on the "Exit Wounds" soundtrack, it came out corny, wack, and shallow. "Ain't No Sunshine" didn't move his career or that "Exit Wounds" soundtrack forward, If anything, it was the obvious decline of DMX." Mr. D. Original is preparing to release his next project, "Mr. D. Original…From The Cradle to the Grave You Know Me as a Hustler" in the Fall 2002. The first single is a 3-song maxi-single entitled, "U Can't Come Thru With That Bullshit, Nigga" on the $Money Entertainment$ label. Stay tuned for more on this developing story! |
